Cypress Ramps Into Volume Production of Industry's Highest Density 18-Mbit Dual-Port RAM
FLEx72(TM) DP RAM Addresses Density and Bandwidth Requirements of
High-Performance Wireless Basestations, Wide Area Networks,
Storage Area Networks, and Image Processing Equipment
SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dec. 22, 2003—
Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:CY) today announced that
it has reached volume production of the world's highest-density and
highest-bandwidth dual-port (DP) RAM. The FLEx72(TM) 18-Mbit DP RAM is
a synchronous, pipelined dual-port memory that provides 72-bit wide
ports enabling up to 19.2 Gbps of bandwidth -- 60 percent more than
alternative devices.
The FLEx72 DP RAM provides simultaneous access to any location in
the memory -- either port can write and read data into and out of any
memory location at the same time. This feature, combined with the
ability to run both ports in two independent clock domains, enables
the buffering of large packets of data between two processing elements
in a system. It also eliminates bus contention issues by enabling
system architects to create a distributed bus architecture.
"With its unprecedented combination of performance and storage
capability, the FLEx72 DP RAM is the optimal solution for
next-generation communication systems and video and image processing
systems," said Rajiv Nema, Marketing Manager for Dual Ports for
Cypress's Data Communication Division. "Cypress has consistently been
first to market with the most advanced multi port memories; by doing
so, our customers can get to market in shorter time with highly
differentiated products."
Configured as a 256K x 72 device, the FLEx72 DP RAM operates up to
133 MHz and provides synchronous SRAM interface to processors, DSPs,
FPGAs and ASICs. Available in a 484-ball FBGA package, the FLEx72 DP
RAM features low operating voltage (3.3 V) and low standby & dynamic
power consumption. This device includes full range of features such as
separate byte enables, master reset, mailbox interrupts for
port-to-port message passing, IEEE 1149.1 compatible JTAG interface
for improved manufacturability and more.
The addition of the FLEx72 18-Mbit devices expands Cypress's broad
dual-port memory portfolio, which includes the FLEx36(TM) family of
1-Mbit, 2-Mbit, 4-Mbit and 9-Mbit devices currently in production. For
